Blog

Diweddaraf-Latest

Bu'r wythnosau diwethaf yn brysur eto. Dw i wedi ail-ymaelodi cwrs MA er mwyn gorffen nawr jyst angen ysgrifennu 20,000 o eiriau erbyn mis Mawrth nesaf! Haws dweud na 'wneud. Mae tîm pêl droed Sinead wedi ennill gem, 7-0, a wnaeth Sinead, yn y gôl dim ond cyffwrdd y pêl dwywaith! Dyna fantais o chwarae yn erbyn merched llai yn lle yn erbyn merched mwy.

Mae Carwyn yn dal yn hapus yn yr ysgol, sefyllfa mor wahanol i'r ysgol gynradd. Dylai Tomas newid ei enw i 'Kevin' cymaint o ddillad sydd ar y llawr trwy'r amser yn lle yn y golch ond fel arall mae e'n dal i wneud pethau gyda sgowtiaid a mynd i saethyddiaeth felly rydym yn ddigon hapus gyda fe. Mae Mary yn dechrau ffeindio ei swydd yn anodd gyda diffyg cefnogaeth y prif athro ddim yn helpu.

The last weeks have been busy again. I have rejoined the MA course I just need to write 20,000 words by next March! Easier said than done. Sinead's football team has won a game, 7-0, and Sinead, in goad, only touched the ball twice! That's the advantage of playing aginst smaller girls instead of larger ones.

Carwyn is still happy in school, a completely different situation to primary school. Tomas should change his name to 'Kevin' the amount of dirty clothes he leaves on the floor all the time instead of putting in the wash but otherwise he is doing things like going to scouts and archery so we are happy enough with him. Mary is beginning to find her job difficult with the lack of support from the head teacher not helping.

Newyddion - Mis ers y neges diwethaf. Llawer o bethau wedi digwydd. Y tri mwyaf nodweddiadol.

Cymerodd Carwyn pasta Tomas i'r ysgol dydd Llun olaf cyn hanner tymor. Canlyniad? Bwyta fe i gyd a'i mwynhau. Y problem? Dim y pasta di-gluten mae Carwyn i fod i fwyta oedd hi. Canlyniad? Tri diwrnod o Carwyn yn methu gwneud y peth lleiaf, fel cael ei hunan yn barod i'r ysgol, methu gwneud ei waith yn yr ysgol yn y pynciau mae e'n mwynhau fel arfer, fel Maths. Roedd popeth yn 'rhy galed'. Cadarnhad eto o bwysigrwydd iddo osgoi bwyd gyda gluten.

Dydd Sadwrn diwethaf (22 Hydref) es i gyda Sinead ar orymdaith yng Nghaerdydd i gefnogi ceiswyr lloches, gweler llun o Sinead gyda placard. Roedd Sinead yn anhygoel ar y megaffon, mae hi'n llwyddo i siarad trwyddo fe am amser hir, dydy hi ddim yn peoni beth mae pobl eraill yn meddwl amdani. Wnaeth lawer o bobl tynnu ei llun.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4367562.stm

Dechreuodd Sinead yn mynd i'r 'Brownies', mae hi'n wrth ei bodd yn mynd a cael gweithgareddau i'w gwneud tu allan i'r ysgol, piti am y pethau brenhinol ac ati.

News- A month since the last post. Three significant events.

A week ago, the last Tueasday of school. Carwyn took the wrong pasta to school, not the gluten free he is supposed to eat. The result he ate it and enjoyed it and then couldn't do the simplest thinsg for over three days. He couldn't get himself ready for school, he couldn't do his work in his favourite lessons in school, ie Maths. Everything was "too hard". A reminder of the need to keep up the gluten free diet.

Last Saturday (22nd Oct) Sinead and I went on a demo in Cardiff in support of Asylum seekers. Sinead was very good, she has such self confidence using the megaphone, she kept chanting for most of the demo to the astonishment of passers by. Lots of people took her photo.

Sinead has started to go to Brownies. She loves it of course, lots of structure and lots of things to do to fill up her time with.

@Bristol - Ddoe es i gyda Carwyn a Sinead i @Bristol, sef canolfan 'dwylo arno' gwyddoniaeth ym Mryste. Mae'n dipyn bach fel Tecnicwest ond gyda arbrofion ac offer gwahanol, hefyd mae arddangosfa Bioleg anhygoel yno. Llawer o fathau o anifeiliaid a phlanhigion byw ac hefyd fforest trofannol llawn o ainfeiliaid a phlanhigion. Mae arddangosfa am robotiaid yno a cafodd Carwyn a Sinead llawer o hwyl yn gwneud modelau. Wnaeth Carwyn 2 fodel robot gyda 'Knex'. Wnaeth Sinead rhywbeth o gyfres teledu poblogaidd. Beth yw e? Cliw - Pwy?

Yesterday I took Carwyn and Sinead to @Bristol, which is a 'Hands On' Science Centre in Bristol. It's a little but like Techniquest but with different experiments and equipment, also there's a fantastic Biology exhibition there. Many types of animals and plants and also a tropical rain forest with plants and animals. There is an exhibition of robots there and Carwyn and Sinead had lots of un making models. Carwyn made 2 models with Knex. Sinead made something from a popular TV series. What is it? Clue-Who?

Sinead a phel droed - Sinead and football - Bu Sinead yn ymarfer pel droed gyda thim lleol ers mis Medi diwethaf. Does ganddi ddim llawer o ddawn i chwarae pel droed, mae'n cael trafferth i cicio pel yn effeithiol. Efallai mae awtistiaeth yn cael rhywfaint o effaith arni hefyd does ganddi ddim syniad beth i'w wneud pan mae'r plant eraill yn pasio'r pel rhyngddynt. Hanner ffordd trwy'r tymor y llynedd buodd hi'n colli tymor gyda gweddill y merched tra'n ymarfer oherwydd fyddai neb yn pasio ati hi. Ond un peth am Sinead mae'n ferch heb ofn o gwbl a wnaeth y hyfforddwr sylweddoli bod hi'n fodlon chwarae mewn gol a thaflu ei hunan o gwmpas er mwyn arbed.

Yr wythnos diwethaf wnaeth hi ennill tlws chwaraewraig y gem (gweler llun) i gadw am wythnos ar ol gwneud arbediadau dewr. Mae'n dal yn methu cicio allan, mae'n rhaid iddi gael rhywun arall i wneud hynny ond mae'n deimlad anhygoel pan eich plentyn yn llwyddo tu hwnt i'r disgwyl. Heddiw wnaeth hi adael 4 gol i mewn ond yn erbyn tim oedd yn 2-3 blynedd hyn ac ar ol gwneud 6 arbediad da doedd hyn ddim yn ddrwg o gwbl.

Sinead has been training with a local team since last September. She doesn't have much ability in playing football, and has problems kicking a ball effectively. Maybe autism has got something to do with this also she has not much idea what to do when other children are passing the ball between themselves. Half way through the season she was losing her temper with the other girls because they wouldn't pass the ball to her. But one thing about Sinead is that she has no fear and the trainer realised that she is prepared to throw herself about in goal in order to make saves.

Last week she won the player of the game award (see pic) to keep for a week after making brave saves. She is still unable to kick out, she has to get someone else to do that. It's an incredible feeling when your child does something much better than you expect. Today she let 4 goals but against a team that were 2-3 years older and after making 6 good saves that wasn't bad at all.

Yn ol i'r ysgol - Back to school

Mae'r gwyliau'n drosodd! Mae Sinead yn hapus, pawb arall yn drist. Ers y newyddion diwethaf buon yn arddangosfa 'Dr Who' yn Brighton (gweler lluniau), yn Nyfnaint (ty mam Mary - gweler lluniau o'r traeth) ac yn gwneud llawer o ddim byn cartref. 'Naethon ni lwyddo i goginio 1 bifbyrger yn unig ar noson y barbeciw ond roedd hi'n dal llawer o hwyl, daeth fy nhad ac Esther draw am fwyd.

Mae Carwyn yn ymddangos yn setlo'n iawn yn ei ysgol uwchradd, dim llawer o 'strops', beth bynnag mae'n ddigon hapus i fynd pob diwrnod ac mae Mary yno i helpu fe pob diwrnod. Mae Sinead yn hapus iawn fel arfer i fynd yn ol i'r ysgol a chael rhywbeth i'w wneud i lenwi ei diwrnod. Does dim llawer o frwydrydedd gan Tomas i ddechrau ei waith TGAU ym mlwyddyn 10.

The holidays are over! Sinead is happy, everyone else is sad. Since the last post we have been to the Dr Who exhibition in Brighton (see pictures), to Devon (Mary's mum's house - see pics from the beach) and doing very little otherwise at home. We succeeded in cooking 1 beef burger at our barbeque but it was a lot of fun, my father and Esther came over. Carwyn appears to have settled down well in his secondary school, not too many strops and he seems happy to go every day and Mary's there to help him. Sinead is very happy to go back to school and have something to do to fill her day. Tomas has very little enthusiasm to start his GCSE work in year 10.

Eisteddfod

Dau ddiwrnod yn yr Eisteddfod, es i i fyny bore dydd Mawrth a dod yn ol bore dydd Iau. Roedd llawer o bobl yno, fel pob tro, ond piti am y mwd a drewdod mewn mannau. Braf gweld bod rhai o ddisgyblion Gwynllyw wedi teithio yr holl ffordd o Went i ddod i'r Eisteddfod. Dyma lluniau o'r 'Tardis' ac o brotest Cymdeithas am Ddeddf Iaith newydd.

Two days in the Eisteddfod, I went up Tuesday and came back Thursday. There were many people there, as usual, but it was a shame that parts of the field were muddy and smelly. It was nice to see some Gwynllyw pupils who had travelled all the way from Gwent to come to the Eisteddfod. Here are pictures of the 'Tardis' and the Cymdeithas protest for a new language act.

Byd Cadbury World

Taith i fyd Cadbury ddoe ac heddiw gyda Carwyn a Sinead. Wnaethon ni aros neithiwr mewn 'Travellodge' yn agos i Birmingham. Tro cyntaf i ni aros mewn rhyw fath o westy gyda'n gilydd. Eithaf da ar y cyfan. Ychydig bach yn boeth yn yr ystafell ond fel arall arbrawf llwyddiannus.

Roedd byd Cadbury yn effeithiol, llawer o hwyl i'r plant (ac i ni hefyd) ac, ar y cyfan, gwerth yr arian. Erbyn y diwedd roedden ni'n dechrau diflasu ychydig bwyta siocled ond chwarae teg i'r lle roedd digon o samplau am ddim ar gael.

Dyma lluniau o Carwyn a Sinead yn aros tu allan i'r drysau agor, mae'n syniad da i fynd y gynnar ac i fwcio ymlaen llaw, ac hefyd o arwydd (art-decoaidd?) Cadbury ar y ffatri.

Trip to Cadbury's world yesterday and today with Carwyn and Sinead. We stayed a night in a travellodge near to Birmingham. The first time for us to stay in any kind of hotel together. OK on the whole. A little hot in the room but otherwise a successful experiment.

Cadbury's world was effective, lots of fun to the children (and to us) and, on the whole, worth the money. By the end though we were beginning to weary of eating chocolate although there were plenty of free samples.

Here are picture of Sinead and Carwyn waiting outside for the doors to open, it's a good idea to go early and to book ahead, and also of the Cadbury sign (art-deckoish?) on the factory.

Porthcawl

Aethon ni i Borthcawl heddiw, diolch i awgrym ffrind fy nghwaer (sy ddim eisiau cael sylw yn y blog - sori Julie). Diwrnod bendigedig! Roedd y mor yn gynnes (i gymharu gyda thymhereddau arferol dim byd cystal a'r 'Med' wrth gwrs) roedd y gwynt yn gynnes. Cafodd Sinead a Carwyn llawer o hwyl yn y mor. Wnes i nofio hefyd, y tro cyntaf yn y mor ers 2 neu 3 blynedd. Hyfryd. Dyma lun o Sinead ar y creigiau, wnes i geisio cael llun synhwyrol o Tomas ond unwaith eto wnaeth e dynnu wyneb gwirion.

Fel arall mae'r gwyliau'n mynd yn iawn, digonedd o waith papur i gwblhau ar gyfer teithiau Tomas gyda'r sgowtiaid y penwythnos yma a'r Urdd yr wythnos nesaf.

I son am rhywbeth arall mae'n rhyfedd sut mae'r Derynas Unedig yn symud i gyfeiriad cymdeithas gormesol heb llawer o wrthwynebiad na drafodaeth. Mae'r heddlu yn gofyn am yr hawl i dal pobl heb mynd i'r llys am 3 mis. Ymateb Blair - 'syniad da' . Gyda 'gorchmynion rheoli' eisoes mewn grym a phobl yn cael ei saethu ar y stryd gan yr heddlu, beth sy'n nesaf - bantustan i'r moslemiaid?

We went to Porthcawl today, thanks to the suggestion of my sister's friend (who didn't want a mention in this blog - sorry Julie). A fabulous day! The sea was warm (to compare with its usual temperature no way as good as the 'Med' of course) the wind was warm. Lovely. Carwyn and Sinead had a great time in the water, I even had a swim - the first time in the water for some years. Above is a picture os Sinead on the rocks, I tried to take one of Tomas but as usual he made a silly face.

Otherwise the holiday is going OK, plenty of paper work to complete for Tomas's trips with the Scouts and the Urdd over the next two weeks.

In terms of the general situation it's frightening how the UK is turning into a repressive society without much opposition or debate. The police want to hold people for 30 days without trial. Blair's reaction - 'Good idea'. With control orders already in place and the police gunning people down in the street what's next - bantustans for muslims?

Tolpuddle

Es i gyda Sinead a tri oedolyn arall (Rose, Arthur a Karl) i lawr i wyl Tolpuddle. Dathliad o'r pobl wnaeth geisio sefydlu undeb llafur yn 1834 (cewch mwy o'r hanes ar http://www.tolpuddlemartyrs.org.uk/story_frms.html)

Roedd y diwrnod yn grasboeth, roedd miloedd o bobl yno, wnaeth Arthur yfed gormod fel arfer (ond pa berson 79 oed sy'n cymaint o hwyl pan mae'n henner meddw), wnaeth y daith gymryd dros 3 awr pob ffordd (wnes i yrru yr holl ffordd yno ac yn ol) ond eto roeddwn yn falch fy mod i wedi mynd. Mae'n bwysig cofio hanes a dysgu y cenhedlaeth nesaf yr hanes. Dyma llun o Sinead yn cario baner Cyngor Undebau Llafur Torfaen.

I went with Sinead, and 3 other adults (rose, Arthur and Karl) down to the Tolpuddle festival. A celebration of the poeple who tried to set up a trade union in 1834 (more details at http://www.tolpuddlemartyrs.org.uk/story_frms.html) The day was very hot, there were thousands there, Arthur drank too much as usual (but what other 79 year old is such a laugh when he is half drunk), the journey took over 3 hours each way (I drove the whole way there and back) but despite this I was glad that I had gone. It is important to remember history and teach it to the next generation. Here is a picture of Sinead carrying the Torfaen Trades Union Council banner.

Friday on my mind.....Dydd Gwener ar fy meddwl

Dyma fi, dydd Gwener llawn olaf y tymor hwn yn yr ysgol. Dw i heb son am hyn o blaen, athro ydw i ac wedi bod ers dros 20 mlynedd. Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw ers 12 mlynedd. Wrth edrych yn ol (piti am y diffyg acenion yn y rhaglen yma gyda llaw) pan oeddwn i yn fy 20au doeddwn i ddim yn meddwl y byddai'n treulio cymaint o amser yn yr un swydd yn yr un lle,ond eto mae sefydlogrwydd yn bwysig i blant.

Friday, the last full week of term. I haven't mentioned this before but I have been a teacher for 20 years. In Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw for 12 years. Looking back to when I was in my 20's I didn't think that I would spend some much time in one job in the same place, again it's important for children to have stability.

Watching the tele - Gwylio'r teledu

Mae'n ddoniol gwrando ar Sinead a Carwyn yn gwylio'r teledu pan mae 'na rhaglenni cystadleuol i blant arno. Mae'r dau, yn enwedig Carwyn, yn ymateb gyda cymaint o frwfrydedd. Mae Carwyn yn defnyddio llawer mwy o iaith nac mae e'n arfer defnyddio pan mae e'n cyfathrebu gyda phobl. Wrth gwrs mae hyn yn profi damcaniaeth am bobl awtistig sef bod ganddynt problemau perthnasu gyda phobl. Mae hefyd yn atgoffa fi am y ffilm 'Rainman', mewn llawer o ffyrdd mae Carwyn yn debyg i'r cymeriad awtistig yn y ffilm.

Mae'r llun uchod yn dangos Sinead yn ei chit pel droed, mae wedi cael llawer o hwyl ers mis Medi diwethaf yn chwarae gyda'r tim lleol i ferched. Gol geidwad yw ei hoff safle.

It's funny listening to Sinead and Carwyn watching the tele when there is a programme for children with a competition in it. The two of them, especially Carwyn, respond with such enthusiasm. Carwyn uses much more language then he usually does when he is communicating with people. Of course this just proves the theory about autistic people that they have problems relating with people. It also reminds me of the film Rainman, in many ways Carwyn is like the autistic character in the film.

The above picture shows Sinead in her football kit, she has had lots of fun since last September playing with the local girl's team. Her favourite position is goalie.

Living with autism - Byw gyda awtistiaeth

Debyg bod ti heb sylweddoli bod awtistiaeth yn effeithio'r plant i gyd. Carwyn a Sinead sydd gyda diagnosis o awtistiaeth a Tomas sydd gyda diagnosis o Asperger. Yn y blynyddoedd cynnar roedd yn anodd iawn. Erbyn hyn gyda'r tri wedi datblygu'n fwy mae 'na bethau da a phethau drwg yn y sefyllfa. Un mantais yw bod nhw'n hoffi'r un trefn trwy'r amser a felly mae amser gwely yn hawdd iawn, pob nos mae'n 9 o'r gloch felly mae'n amser gwely a dyma nhw'n mynd heb dadlau. Ar y llaw arall mae'n llawer anoddach i geisio gwneud pethau newydd - eisiau peidio mynd i Sainsburys am bryd bwyd ar ol ysgol dydd Mawrth - anghofio amdano!

Dyma llun o Carwyn a Sinead Pasg 2004 yn cael hwyl yn y parc yng Nghwmcarn.

You have probably not realised that the children are all affected by autism. Carwyn and Sinead have a diagnosis of autism while Tomas has one of Asperger. In the early years it was very difficult. By now the three have developed more and there are good and bad things about the situation. One advantage is that they like the same routine all the time and so bedtime is very easy, every night it's 9 o clock so it's time for bed and off they go without arguing. On the other hand it's much harder doing new things - want to not go to Sainsburys for tea on Tuesdays after school - forget about it!

Here's a picture of Carwyn and Sinead at Easter 2004 having fun in the park in Cwmcarn.

Hols soon - Gwyliau yn fuan.
Dydd Llun wythnos olaf llawn yn yr ysgol. Roedd pawb yn flinedig iawn yn y gwres heddiw ond o leiaf mae'r tywydd i fod yn llai boeth erbyn diwedd yr wythnos. Roedd yn anodd i gysgu neithiwr hyd yn oed gyda ffan.

Yn Irac mae'r tymheredd yn llawer poethach a does dim trydan yn aml i redeg ffaniau neu dwr rhedeg chwaith. Roedd erthygl da iawn yn y Guardian heddiw yn son am y cysylltiad rhwng y bomio erchyll yn Llundain a'r meddiannu yn Irac. http://www.guardian.co.uk/attackonlondon/comment/story/0,16141,1525755,00.html

Dyma 2 lun arall - un o fi yn yr ysgol ar ddiwedd y dydd a'r llall o Sinead yn ystod ein gwyliau Pasg ym Mhen Llyn.

Monday last full week at school. Everyone was very tired in the heat today but the weather is supposed to be lass hot by the end of the week. It was hard to sleep last night even with a fan.

In Iraq the temperature is much hotter and there's often no electricity to run fans or running water either. There was a very good article in the Guardian today about the connection between the terrible bombing in London and the occupation in Iraq.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/attackonlondon/comment/story/0,16141,1525755,00.html

Here are two pictures - one of me in school at the end of the day and one of Sinead during our Easter holidays in the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales

Is it really me? Dyma fi go iawn?

Llun cyntaf
Mae'n hawdd iawn rhoi lluniau ar y blog. Dyma un diweddar, piti am y plwg yn y cefndir. Fel arall pawb yn hapus, mae Tomas wedi mynd gyda 'sgowtiau' am y penwythnos - rhyddhad!!

First picture
It's easy putting pictures on the blog. This is a recent one, sorry about the plug in the background. Otherwise everyone is happy, Tomas has gone with the scouts for the weekend - a relaxing weekend ahead!!

Here I am again - Dyma fi eto

Dros tair blynedd ers y tro diwethaf. Mae'r byd bloggio wedi symud ymlaen a dod yn fwy cyhoeddus a derbyniol. Felly dyma cynnig arall ar sefydlu 'blog'

Heddiw mae'n ddiwrnod braf ac ar hyn o bryd mae pawb yn ddigon fodlon. Mae Tomas (14 erbyn hyn ac yn dal iawn) yn gwylio'r teledu, mae Sinead (8 a gwneud yn dda yn yr ysgol) yn chwarae yn yr ardd. Mae Carwyn (12 erbyn hyn) ar y 'playstation'. Mae Mary (43) yn gwylio 'Wimbledon' a dyma fi 3 blynedd yn hyn hefyd yn defnyddio'r clinfwrdd gyda 'wi-fi' yn y cegin ac yn gwrando ar Fela Kuti.

Here I am again.

Over three years since the last time. The world of blogging has moved on and become more mainstream. So here is an attempt at establishing a blog.

Today it's a lovely day and at the moment every one is happy enough. Tomas (14 by now and very tall) is watching the TV, Sinead (8 and doing well in school) is playing in the garden. Carwyn (now 12) is playing on his playstation. Mary (43) is watching Wimbledon and here's me 3 years older using the laptop with wi-fi in the kitchen and listening to Fela Kuti.
